NOTES
Without a doubt, Species 8472 is one of the most powerful races in the known universe.
Though details are sparse, it is believed the species was genetically engineered by the
ancient Phobians to combat a now extinct civilization known as the Al-Bhed.
Once the war was concluded, Species 8472 (also known as the Sra'xa'diin) attacked and
destroyed the Phobian Republic.  This wonton destruction ultimately prompted the
ancient Iconians to seal Species 8472 into fluidic space, where they remained until the
Borg invaded their space in 2373.

The bioships employed by Species 8472 are small, organic craft that are impervious to
almost all known forms of assault.  Alone, a single bioship has the potential to obliterate a
Borg cube.  An attacking fleet of bioships can destroy entire star systems.  During the Borg
conflict in 2373/2374, billions of Borg  were destroyed, while Species 8472 suffered minimal
losses.

In 2375, the USS Voyager forged a tentative treaty with Species 8472, but for the most
part, the species has remained in seclusion since the conflict with the Borg.
