Ka’Tula Prime is the fourth planet in the Ka’Tula System. Also known as Aska, Ka’Tula Prime is a Class O (pelagic) world with a
humanoid population of 3.72 billion, and an even more substantial cetacean population. It has one satellite, Mekanos, that is
tidally locked to the planet, much like Earth’s moon.
Ka'Tula Prime has a tropical climate; its poles only occasionally freeze during the winter. As a result, intense tropical cyclones
often form in the warm, open waters. This often leads to heavy rainfall on land, but damage is
usually minimal due to wind- and water-resistant structures.

The planet was first inhabited approximately 100 million years ago by the Ka'Tulans. At the time, the
Ka'Tulans were an advanced non-corporeal species capable of space travel. While at least some of the species
left the planet thereafter and continued to exist in a non-corporeal state, many Ka'Tulans remained on the surface. Over the
span of several million years, these individuals lost their non-corporeal form and gradually evolved into modern-day Ka'Tulans.

In the interim, the planet was visited by numerous alien races. About 200,000 years ago, the Elorg Bloc established an outpost in
the Farhelian Mountain Range to observe Iconian activities from afar. The ruins they left behind, known as Antha'nuel, are
regaurded as some of the most impressive in the Beta Quadrant. ("Rising Terrors" [TFF]).
Primarily an agrarian species, the Ka'Tulans did not acquire warp travel until 2007. They remained non-aligned for several
centuries, but increased activity along the Romulan Neutral Zone in the 2360s prompted them to seek protection from the
United Federation of Planets. Ka'Tula Prime was admitted into the Federation in April 2367.
During the Dominion War in the 2370s, Ka’Tula Prime was briefly annexed by the Dominion. The planet was re-annexed by the
Romulans when they joined the war in 2375, remaining occupied until 2376. (“Roulette” [TFF]). Twenty years later,
Ka’Tula Prime was again ravaged by war—sustaining heavy casualties in the aftermath of an Elorg bombardment on stardate 73997
(December 2396). Though the number of Ka’Tulans killed in the attack remains unknown, it is suspected to have been in the
millions (“Meridian Dance,” “Angelus Erarre” [TFF]). Ka’Tula Prime was liberated in March 2397. (“Confessions and
Confrontations” [TFF]).
