NOTES |
The Borg Cube is one of the largest, most powerful vessels in the galaxy. Since it was first encountered by the Federation in 2364, tens of thousands of Federation citizens have been killed or assimilated by the Borg Cube, including those lost near the Romulan Neutral Zone, Wolf 359, and the Typhon Sector. No known weaponry can effectively destroy a cube. The Borg's ability to analyze and adapt gives them an incredible advantage, making it virtually impossible to destroy a cube. Even after prolonged battle in the Typon Sector in 2373, a Federation task force inflicted only minor damage to the cube's outer hull. Additionally, Borg Cubes can function normally even if 80% of the vessel has been destroyed. In the rare event of such a catastrophe, advanced nanotechnology allows the ship to repair itself. Borg vessels are also amongst the fastest in the galaxy, able to reach transwarp speeds equivalent to warp 25. This tremendous advantage allows the Collective to traverse incredible distances in only a few short hours. Despite the recent lull in Borg activity, Federation scientists continue to research new technologies with hopes of ultimately defeating the Borg. However, given the Collective's incredible advantages, it seems unlikely the Federation could hope to defeat the Borg from a military standpoint |
