NOTES
First appearing along the Neutral Zone in 2364, the D'deridex-class battleship was long a
fearsome mystery to the Federation.  Nearly twice the length of a Galaxy Class starship and
heavily armed, it was generally believed that the D'deridex could easily overpower any
Federation vessel.  And though it did ultimately prove itself a formidable foe on numerous
occasions, the D'deridex was frequently hindered by its lack of maneuverability and inferior
technology.  As a result, the Romulans took heavy losses during the Dominion War.

The D'deridex class was also poorly suited for diplomatic and scientific missions, as many of
its facilities were geared toward combat.

Even so, the D'deridex class continued to serve in the Romulan fleet until the late 2390's,
when it was gradually phased out of production by the Valdore and Kerchan class
warbirds.  Many D'deridex class warbirds still complete the Romulan fleet, but production
on the class ceased in late 2397.
