NOTES
With the Norexan Class firmly established as a capable diplomatic and science vessel, and
the D'deridex Class growing obsolete, the Romulan Empire began developing the Kerchan
Class Warbird during the brief conflict with the Federation in the 2380's to bolster the
front lines.  A sleek update of the D'deridex, the Kerchan Class is vastly more powerful
than its antiquated predecessor, with no less than 16 plasma torpedo tubes.  It also boasts
improved maneuverability and cloaking systems.  Starfleet believes the Kerchan has the
ability to fire weapons while cloaked, but that particular trait has not yet been
demonstrated.

Unlike the Norexan, very little of the Kerchan's systems are devoted to science.  In order
to accommodate the vastly improved tactical systems, both speed and science were
sacrificed.

The first Kerchan Class vessels were launched as early as 2389, but the class did not see
prolific production until the advent of the Elorg War in 2396.  Unlike the Dominion War,
when the D'deridex Class took heavy losses, the Kerchan performed well during the Elorg
Conflict.  Production of the class is expected to continue well into the 25th Century.
