Rachael Meyer was born October 13, 2367 in Melnari City on Marius VI.  Her parents, Larry and Emily Meyer, were both
Starfleet officers stationed in the Marius System.  Rachael also had a younger sister, Natalie.  Young Rachael lived a fairly
average childhood, only rarely venturing from the Marius System with her family.  Though fleeting, these brief voyages were
enough to inspire Rachael’s curiosity about the universe—and more specifically, the people around her.
Childhood
Rachael was admitted into Valus University on Marius VI in September 2385.  While at the University, Rachael studied both
psychology and medicine, though her studies eventually focused primarily on psychology.  Rachael performed well at the
University, and after a brief tenure at the Starfleet training facility on Starbase 117 in 2389, she was assigned to the USS
Discovery under the command of Captain Alan Christopher.  Aboard the Discovery, Rachael became romantically involved with
fellow shipmate Jason Ramsey; she also became acquainted with Captain Christopher after a chance meeting aboard the USS
Dark Star.  While life was certainly good for Rachael aboard the Discovery, it was unsatisfactory for most everyone else.  On
stardate 70647 (August 2390), the Discovery’s first officer, upset that Christopher defied and crossed into Romulan territory to
seal an interspatial flexure, led a violent insurrection that ended in mutiny. Uncertain if such actions were warranted, Rachel
and Jason assisted Captain Christopher and escaped aboard the Dark Star.

For the next two years, Rachel and her accomplices eluded Federation patrols in and around the Kilka Sector.  In late 2394,
the constant use of the Dark Star’s transwarp drive finally caught the attention of the Borg.  It was intercepted by a Borg
probe and heavily damaged.  The probe was ultimately destroyed, but Jason was assimilated by the Borg during the disaster.
(“In Pursuit of Justice” [TFF]).

Several weeks later, the Christopher and Meyer were forced out of hiding when the interspatial flexure reappeared within the
Alteran Expanse.  The event marked the beginning of the Elorg invasion.  During a lull in the initial attack, the Dark Star came
to the aid of the Starlight, heavily damaged during the Elorg’s initial offensive.  While Captain Christopher helped sort out the
command situation, Meyer found herself hard at work in sickbay.  (“Beginnings” [TFF]).  When the crisis passed, Christopher
and Meyer were brought before a military tribunal on Earth.  Though they were found guilty on several charges, Starfleet
ultimately agreed with Christopher’s assessment of the situation that brought upon the mutiny on the Discovery, and thusly
negated punishment for his actions. (“In Pursuit of Justice [TFF]).  Both he and Meyer were allowed to return to the Starlight,
where Rachael assumed a role as ship’s counselor.  (“Secret of Sineron” [TFF]).

Several months into her tenure aboard the Starlight, Rachael began to receive telepathic messages from Species 8472.  Though
latent telepathy was common in her species, the contact with 8472 stimulated Meyer’s telepathic abilities well beyond what
was considered normal.  (“Aftermath” [TFF]).  Eager to explore her abilities, Meyer made several attempts at telepathy near
stardate 72668 (August 2395).  The attempt was only mildly successful.  Though Meyer was indeed able to summon her
telepathic abilities, she knew neither how she accomplished the task, nor how to control her abilities once they surfaced.
(“The Joining” [TFF]).  Hoping to learn more about the science behind her abilities, Meyer considered spending more time in
sickbay and as a science officer on the bridge.  (“Requiem” [TFF]).

On stardate 72990 (December 2395), Meyer was struck by an errant energy discharge during a battle with the Elorg.
(“Requiem” [TFF]).  The attack left Meyer in a coma, with severe damage to her neural pathways.  Her only hope for survival
was an experimental procedure developed to treat Vulcans with similar conditions.  (“Silent Adversary” [TFF]).  After much
debate, Alan Christopher authorized Doctor Sarah Hartman to complete the procedure.  It was a success, but Meyer was
thusly forced to take a daily injection of peridaxon to ensure the repairs to the neural tissue.  The procedure did have an
unexpected side-effect; shortly after regaining consciousness, Meyer reported increased telepathic activity.  (“Awakenings”
[TFF]).

Meyer’s work as ship’s counselor once again became her primary focus in 2396, as she slowly began to unravel the complex
web of emotions that tormented Kendall Johnson’s soul.  The task was a daunting one, given Kendall’s reluctance to open up,
but when he finally did, a tenuous friendship developed between the two of them.  (“Accretion Disk” [TFF]).  That frienship—
and Rachael’s self confidence—took a turn for the worse in September 2396, when Kendall Johnson attempted suicide.
Rachael was stunned by the attempt, and forced to seriously reconsider her role as ship’s counselor.  (“The Long Road”
[TFF]).  Though she ultimately decided to continue serving as the Starlight’s counselor, the situation prompted Meyer to
realign her priorities with the goals she had set prior to her accident.  Her first noteworthy mission was to assist in the
retrieval the USS Altantis on stardate 73798.  (“Manifest Destiny” [TFF]).

Rachael Meyer was captured by the Elorg in December 2396 while returning from a burn treatment seminar on Nivalis II aboard
the USS Merrimac.  She was held alongside Sarah Hartman and the Merrimac crew; Meyer was one of the lucky few not
interrogated by the Elorg.  She was released along with the other prisoners during a prisoner exchange several days later—but
that is when Meyer’s luck reached its end.  Shortly after her release, Rachael Meyer was murdered in cold blood by Overseer
Xi'Yor in the opening moments of a massive Elorg assault that devastated Ka’Tula Prime.  (“Meridian Dance” [TFF]).  Rachael’s
death instilled a rage—and a lingering sense of guilt—in Alan Christopher that drove him to seek revenge upon Xi'Yor.  (“Angelus
Erarre” [TFF]).  That vengeance went unfulfilled until February 2400, when Christopher killed Xi'Yor in a fierce fight.  In the
weeks leading up to the fight, Christopher and Meyer met several times a mysterious netherworld, where they brought some
peaceful closure to a relationship that had previously ended in violence.  (“Where Angels Fear to Tread” [TFF]).
