NOTES |
The Galaxy Class was first introduced in the early 2360's as a replacement for the Ambassador Class as Starfleet's primary exploration vessel. A versatile design, it is equally capable of scientific, diplomatic, and tactical missions. A unique feature of Galaxy Class is its ability to separate the saucer from the engineering hull. The first Galaxy, the USS Galaxy was launched in 2357 and commissioned in 2362, followed a year later by the Enterprise-D. An upgraded version of the Galaxy was commissioned in 2371 in response to the Dominion threat. These vessels included enhanced tactical capabilities that made them a formidable force in battle. Though the class remains in service, production on both the upgraded and original Galaxy Class ceased in 2395, in favor of the Sovereign- and Meridian-Class starship. |
