NOTES |
The Necropolis of Ru'Hmet is an ancient artifact created nearly one million years ago by an extra-dimensional alien species known only as the Hegemony. Some time after its creation, the artifact slipped out of the Hegemony's extra-dimensional realm and entered normal space. Unable to follow directly after the artifact, the aliens were forced to erect an Otherworldly Gate that gave them entry into normal space. The process, unfortunately, took thousands of years, and in the interim, the Hegemony lost track of the artifact. As the eons passed, the Elorg eventually came across the artifact within their subspace realm. They commandeered the giant artifact and used it to store the last remaining vestiges of their ancient homeworld, Eredas, while at the same time christening the Necropolis as a monument to those fallen during the long war with the Iconians. But as the ages past, the Necropolis was again lost to the ages, and was afforded little more than a brief mention in an addendum to the Tome of Na'zar. The Necropolis remained hidden until the year 2400, when the USS Columbia found it adrift in the Alteran Expanse. Fearing that it had been turned into a super-weapon, the Hegemony thusly abandoned its attempts to retrieve the Necropolis, and the Columbia crew returned the monument to the Elorg. Working in collusion with the Elorg, Starfleet continues to study the Necropolis. However, to this day, very little is actually known about it. |
